I'm Back - Again!

DevelopRx to Hugo

Way back in 2015, I came up with a simple site design. I picked WordPress as a platform, chose WP-Forge as a theme, and made a nice logo using an open font I found on the Interwebs. I had posts hooked up to Windows Live Writer (WLW) on my desktop. Life was good.

Microsoft dumped WLW. I started writing how-to’s in Markdown, figuring that would be easier to keep up. I setup Hugo for static sites (faster and safer!). Converted my WordPress site… and then couldn’t find a good search. Hugo’s primary plan was to use Google search, ​f​o​r​ ​just m​y​ ​s​i​te. 🤡

So, I didn’t implement it. That was 5 years ago.

I didn’t stop taking notes, locally. I found Joplin. Fantastic program until I screwed up a sync and managed to delete most of my notes (backups are your friend, people!). I have Joplin notes, markdown notes, and other write ups in various formats. Then, I started using AI. Local AI, free online AI, and finally Claude. The how-to’s came in tidal waves. Some REALLY cool stuff. Where to put it all?

I looked at WordPress again. There’s still no good replacement for WLW. Shame. The WP-Forge theme disappeared a few years back. The WC Roughtrad font site now links to a sexting page. Most of my notes are in .md format. I quizzed Claude and he/she said, “Dude, it’s a no-brainer. Hugo.”

Five years ago, I was a wizard of Hugo. Now, I couldn’t even find any files on my hard drive (changing a power supply and reusing old cables resulted in a 16TB data loss). I started my journey from step one… again. I was somewhat familiar with the road and after 4 long days, my WP site was converted.

So, how did I do? 🙂

I’m purging all the really old posts that only have sentimental value. This version is based on the updated Hugo Mainroad theme, Roadster with lots of tweaks (see DEVELOPRX HUGO).
